So much for the visit to the museum it was a quick let's go sit down and chat. So a planned couple of hours at the museum turned into about three or four catching up over the past several years and plans for a weekend BBQ and more catch up with Caroline, her in-laws, her parents, her new husband (well he's new to me) her
neighbours kids and her soon to be parents neighbours. You get the picture right? Now to give a bit of history... Caroline and I are polar opposites. She moved around a lot with her family and my family didn't even go out for dinner. I stayed put. She had friends all over the place and I had a handful close by. She would get restless and would need to go out meet people (boys) while I was content being at home practicing the piano and trombone. She was the wild and crazy one and I was the "why can't we just follow the rules" kind of kid. She was also the one who was always trying to set me up with one of her friends (since our reunion that is still happening but I'll save for another post). Needless to say we had become fast friends through high school. One would have expected me to do the marriage thing and start the breeding right away but as the universe would have it our roles had been reversed, I'm the rolling stone where as she is June Cleaver. How cool is that? She has the absolute fortune to have a beautiful family (including the in-laws) and is living in perfect domestic bliss and when she is not feeding her troupes or cleaning house she's kicking butt (which she does every day - I'm so impressed) at her Martial Arts lessons in her spare time she paints canvases and rocks and sells them in galleries around town.
O.K. so back to the cupcakes....
Since there were kids involved in this activity I had to go an borrow one which I did and had her help me make cupcakes for the event! I was so excited I made my special lime coconut cupcakes with a vanilla cream frosting and of course the borrowed kid through on the cutest little happy faces for an extra added touch. I was so proud of our creations until I turned up at the party and saw Caroline's beautiful cupcakes all proudly displayed on one of those fancy cupcake holders. Thank goodness I didn't try to force any of my raw vegan gluten free treats on these people, I would have been persona non grata upon my arrival!
Caroline conveniently forgot to mention she was also a professional cake decorator in one of her past life careers. Had I known I would have brought a salad! You know what, it doesn't matter, Caroline always conveniently forgot things (like the fact that she is married and has a kid!) but not to her fault she legitimately would forget the most important details of any situation. So it's kind of been like old times chatting back and forth but now we have the luxury of email as well as telephone so we can keep in touch while I'm on the road and there is the extension to Caroline too her little one so if I don't get one, I get to talk to the other! There is no excuse now to not lose touch of each other again!
Cheers my friend!
Diane
